Crunchy and Delicious Air-Fried Kale Chips

Our family is totally and completely on the kale chip bandwagon! We love the crunch and the saltiness that satisfied our cravings for regular potato chips. However, kale chips from the store can be pretty expensive so I wanted to make kale chips at home with my new air fryer and voila! Crunchy and delicious homemade kale chips that are easy to make with a few simple ingredients.

Don’t you love when you start off with a whole bunch of kale and then when it’s cooked, it’s almost like half! Oh well, it’s totally worth it. I used a clean dish towel to pat dry the kale. This step is super important because if there is any water on your kale, you’ll end up steaming it instead of frying it. That will lead to soggy kale, not chips.

I used kitchen shears to cut off the stem since it makes this step a little easier and faster. I’m sure a knife would work just fine. Once the stems are off, I usually just eyeball 2-3 inches of kale to tear off. Just don’t get too tear happy and then you’ll have kale confetti instead!

Next, you’ll want to oil and massage your kale. Literally! Massage every leaf to ensure oil is covering every single crevice. This ensures a super duper crispy kale chip. I also love these kale chips because you can add any flavor or any seasoning you like! Taco kale chips anyone?

Then, into the air fryer! Don’t overcrowd the basket or your kale chips won’t crisp up in the center. I usually do the air frying part in two batches. But even with two batches, you’re still looking at yummy kale chips in only 10 minutes!

Finally, your kale chips are done! The air fryer couldn’t have made it any simpler. I wish you could hear how crunchy these chips are. I would recommend eating your kale chips immediately because 1) they’re delicious and 2) they don’t store super well and can get soggy after a day. Trust me, I’ve tried storing them, but it’s just not the same. I’ve even used a handful of uncooked rice to soak up any moisture, but that “crunch” is just not there. Le sigh. We’ll just have to eat them in one sitting. DARN.

Let me know how you like these kale chips! Have you tried any other seasoning blend or flavor? I would love to hear what you think!
