Gathering all of the ingredients was difficult for me as I kept sneaking some of the mini marshmallows! The secret ingredient that takes these treats to the next level is the vanilla extract.

Rice Krispie Heart Treats Ingredients

Melting the butter and marshmallows is the only “cooking” that you will be doing for this recipe. Stir the gooey mixture frequently over low heat to ensure that there are no clumps and that it does not burn. It will take a little while to get all of the marshmallows melted, but they will eventually melt. Next you mix in the Rice Krispies cereal into the marshmallow mixture. It is quite a workout and it is sooo tempting to “taste test”, but I promise that the wait is well worth it!

Spreading the cereal and marshmallow mixture into the baking pan is where you can get a little help from your little one! I had Remy help spread the mixture, but I think he was more interested in licking the spoon. ???? Don’t worry! We replaced the spoon to finish this step hehe. Do not pack the mixture too tightly as leaving it a little loose allows for a more gooey and chewy treat!

We let the mixture set for about an hour or so, but you can also save time by letting it set in the refrigerator. The only heart cookie cutter we had was quite large, so we were only able to make six treats from one baking pan. You can certainly use smaller ones to make more treats! Or you can forgo the heart shape and just cut into regular squares. We liked the heart shape because of Valentine’s Day, but it also meant more leftover scraps for eating!

We then dipped each heart into the pink candy melt about halfway using a shallow bowl. After dipping, we let each heart set on a silicone mat for ~10 minutes in the refrigerator.

For the drizzling part, I melted white chocolate in a mug and poured into a ziploc bag. I cut off a small part on one corner to allow for easy piping.

TIP: Put the ziploc bag in a small cup to make for easy pouring!

And these Rice Krispies heart treats are done! They make such beautiful treats that they are almost too pretty to eat! Feel free to use sprinkles or other decorations to your “heart’s” content. Get it? ???? Package these yummy treats up and pass them out on Valentine’s Day to all of your friends and family!
